An oil painting by the Antwerp artist Willem Van Riet. A winter landscape with some houses under a snowy sky. The sun is hidden behind a dark snow cloud, but the reflected light illuminates the snow-covered roofs. Signed lower left.

Willem Van Riet (1887 - 1927 or '28) was a painter born in Antwerp. As a realistic painter he made portraits, flowers, still lifes, landscapes and allegorical scenes. He also made an important series of etchings. He trained at the Antwerp Academy and the NHISKA.
