Description

Old engraving of the Hertogdom Brabant 'Brabantiae descriptio'. A lot of details of the region between Brussels-Antwerpen-Hasselt, also Limburg and Noord-Brabant in teh Netherlands. From Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, the first atlas of the world ever, by J.B. Vrients. Plaat 66.2, dated 1595, 500 prints. Three cartouches: 1) details from region Mechelen; 2) 'Stemmate et eruditione claro, Dn. Hadriano Marsselario, patricio Antwerpiensi; Ab. Ortelius dedicab'; 3) 'Cum Imp. Reg. & | Brabantiæ priuilegio | decennali. 1591'. Latin text on the back.
